HISTORY OF CDAPCL
Cauvery Delta Agro Producer Company Limited as a concept was promoted jointly by Periyar Maniammai University and Periyar TBI after the National Workshop cum showcase of Agrotechnologies in the silver jubilee year of PMU. CDAPCL as familiar to all is a producer company registered under section 7 of the Companies Act, 2013 .
After the silver jubilee year workshop on Agrotechnologies in 2013, three consultative meetings, 12 promoters meetings and 1 one- day awareness workshop were organised at the Periyar Maniammai University, Vallam for promoting the concept of FPO.

20 farmers who volunteered themselves as promoters were attending the monthly meetings at the university from August, 2013, and within three months after the workshop in November 2013, process of registering the said FPO was initiated.

A team of experts were working on the business scopes for the company and suggested that the company would focus on integrated farming as its core, including organic agriculture with Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), while commodity groups will be encouraged for effective and profitable functioning in the location.

Ten such commodity groupings were suggested as below

Dairy and cattle rearing

Floriculture and

Others including Polyhouse agriculture

The decision was to enroll 1000 members, with 15 directors and the FPO would be registered as “ Cauvery Delta Agro Producer Company Ltd., “

With all formalities completed as per the Companies Act, the FPO became the first Producer company registered in Cauvery Delta with 1000 shareholders at the starting point itself.

With a Core group of Nine experts, a Think Tank of 22 active members and a 15 member Board of Management , the company has set its vision and mission and marching towards fulfilling its objective “ sulandrum Air Pinnathu Ulagu” “ every other of the world is behind the mighty agriculture”

First GBM was orgainised in October, 2014

A base line database of every member is prepared and made available on the company’s website

Three Entrepreneurship and Skill development programmes were organised for select members and / or their family women

Efforts are on to establish a modernized jaggery cluster with organic processing and part mechanization

Affordable members were encouraged to buy smart phones for effective use of social media and ICT for their advantage

MoU was signed with Indian Institute for Crop Processing Technologies (IICPT)

MoA with ICRISAT for seed business incubation is on the way

Two Exposure visits to existing FPOs were made

Experiential sharing with high-tech farmer groups were organised for vegetable cultivation

Two of the directors on the Board attended a week long workshop for FPO at ICRISAT, Hyderabad in October , 2014
Future plans:

Members will be linked with CUG facility for free communication among themselves

Inputs supply shops for seed, fertilizers and pesticides are under the way in four places strategically located in the project area.

Some of the existing seed growing farmers within the members of the FPO are identified for promoting certified seed growing for the company’s use

In addition, the company will involve in seed trading to consolidating the supply and demand of Paddy/Rice

Registration for Export of rice is initiated with the support of APEDA
